an OICD CAMPAIGN project...

   the oicd mailist
'We are Free' Television Campaign

.
Attempting to tackle violent and non-violent conflict through understanding the ethnographically presented roots of community and national identities is the OICD's primary aim. Utilising recent ethnographic observations on agricultural communities on the North/South border, as well as a wealth of anthropological research and relevant studies, this campaign attempts to offer an alternative to pursuing sectarian narratives on both sides of the Irish conflict. Fusing ethnographic expertise with media experience, the OICD is proposing the formation of a team to develop highly emotive television 'advertisements' which will attempt to present the viewer with the notion that sectarian narratives are merely one option in contemporary Ireland. By setting out scenarios that acknowledge the commonality and solidarity of 'conflict-charged' communities on both sides, the campaign hopes to gain the trust of those teetering on the edge of such memberships, encouraging them to take on alternative models of cultural identity.

The project has been extensively planned and several ideas brought to the story board stage. The OICD is seeking funding for the second developmental stage of the project, which will bring the team of producers and anthropologists together and take the campaign to production and broadcast.
